Is it true that the human brain only uses 10% of its total capacity?

i have heard that if the human brain uses even 50% of it's total capacity we can do some amazing things like even levitate with the power of will and even move objects with the power of will..is this possible or is it just a myth? please answer=)Is it true that the human brain only uses 10% of its total capacity?
The ';only ten percent'; thing comes from the fact that we're only using a somewhat small percent of our brain at any single moment. This doesn't necessarily mean that we aren't using everything we've got because the brain is compartmentalized. We don't need it all at once because we aren't doing the thousands of things we're capable of all at the same time. Various different parts are tasked with different actions. One part is for creative thought while another is for processing memory. Still others handle various motor functions. We tend to think of brain power in terms of a total percentage of potential, when in fact it's a very large number of smaller parts adding up to a whole. In fact, the most amazing thing about the brain is how much of it is actually just memories and self regulation. There's a lot going on in the background that we're not even aware of. Basically, at any moment we're using only what we need. Some people may be wired up a little differently, resulting in more power being available for certain tasks but this seems to result in deficiencies elsewhere. For instance, many geniuses in history have been described as amazingly awkward socially. Others have had sub-standard physical coordination. This seems to be a result of the brain allocating too much to one task at the expense of others. As far as psychokinesis and such, I doubt it is possible. If it were, we'd probably see a lot more of it given the fact that there are seven BILLION people in the world. I can't think of many physical abnormalities or specialties that are as rare as a few in a billion.Is it true that the human brain only uses 10% of its total capacity?
It's not true.

It's a myth founded on what a crazy scientist did once. He removed parts of the brains of rats, and as they could still eat, sleep, and walk, he deduced that they only use a small percentage of their brains.

It's been disproven, but it's still a tale told often. Also, neural activity is hardly measurable outside the skull, and even if we were to us our brain to full extent, it's doubtful that we will be able to move objects or anything of the sort.
When you ask The Question: “Do we use only 10% of our brains?” The arguments start! Some would say: There is no scientific evidence to suggest that we use only 10% of our brains. In other words, the statement, ';We use only 10% of our brains'; is false; it’s a MYTH. We use all of our brain. Others would say: We probably use less than 10% of our brain. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that we use 100% of our brains. So, who is right? I would say neither, because the question itself was incorrectly asked. If you ask an inappropriate question, you will certainly get wrong answers. The correct question that must be asked is: “How much of our brains do we use properly?” No arguments here. It is obvious that we use less than 10% of our brains properly. Until now, only one person was able to use his full brain capacity when he said: “I already understand everything from my brain! I have no trouble understanding him when he whispers to me and tells me to burn things!”
I asked a similar question before.

They used to think that was true years ago but now they realise its a load of crap!

Think about it, if your in an accident and injure ANY part of your head there will be problems! So where is this 90% that we are not using? we must be using almost all if not all of our brain!
Dude, don't believe everything you hear. It's likely a myth, because there's no scientific evidence for that. Just because it can happen in comic books, doesn't mean it'll happen in real life.
no that was some ridiclous thing someone propesed humans use their full brain capacity.

question how does having acess to greater neural connection allow you to defy the laws of gravity?
I've read the 10% theory too but clearly that is wrong. Just read the answers you got-proof of the over estimate. . .
Lets all go have a lobotomy. Great!
No!!!!
Well i heard that Einstein only used 8% hmm....

you should google it!=D
nah its more like 5 %
