Is it true that you need to air a new mattress for a week before using it?

I never heard of this requirement and can't see any reason for it.

It must be an old wives tale.Is it true that you need to air a new mattress for a week before using it?
No, we paid $89 for one last year the day before we went camping, because someone used ours and it did not need air in it before and it did not stink a bit. Maybe the cheaper ones do, but i dont remember them ever stinking like that. Our air matress is awesome. All you have to do is plug it in to the wall and the air gets in it. We went camping last year and had three of them and two of them was brand new and that did not need to be done. We even had a big tent and it was summer time and really hot outside and you could not smell them.Is it true that you need to air a new mattress for a week before using it?
Hi there.

No, is the answer. You should air it as long as you can, but a good vacuuming will do the job of getting the industrial dust out.

Cheers, Steve.
Ive neva heard of that no. But it is advised that for the 1st 6 months you turn your matress every week. I just do it when im changing the bed!!! :)
Yes you need to hold it up against the wall for a week and sleep on the floor until it airs ok. !!!!! Are you mad?
Mine smelt terrible for a week, so unless you can have the windows open all night, yes, leave it to air.
As previously said I never have but I do keep turning it like someone else here said (or a few have said)
yes 'coz in my case i'm allergic to fumes and brand new mattresses smells bad.
I never have but I would keep turning it like someone else suggested.
Racheal? I think you misread the question!
