Is it true that you'll get used to things if you were exposed to it too much?

like if people always insult you and you feel hurt at first to not feeling hurt at all in the futureIs it true that you'll get used to things if you were exposed to it too much?
Yes, good or bad, we are a creature of 'habits'!!

';Getting used to'; is a huge principle both biologically and psychologically. Vaccines are based on this. Brainwashing is based on this. The saying that one is known by the company one keeps, is also based on this.

It is also ironically true that a lie told repeatedly becomes the truth. Is it true that you'll get used to things if you were exposed to it too much?
There are many ways you can look into your question. If you are talking about ';feelings or emotions';, and using your example above, you can call it and other also refers to it as the ';hardening of the heart';. It simply means, that you get so feed up with all the nasty things and words being said that you don't get affected with it anymore because you simply don't care anymore or you have figure out that it is just not worth giving your attention. The other way of looking at this is from the view point of your senses. Once your senses... sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste are bombarded with ';experiences'; continuously they go numb to that experience, not forever but in that short time. The best way to understand this is stay in a room full of perfume or bad odor and after a while you won't smell it. The odor is not gone your sense just got dull to it. Go out for a minute or so and come back and you will smell it again.
These days I look at human characteristics through the lens of ';how did this help our species survive?'; It this case we are talking about the human being tendency to get used to things after a certain amount of exposure. It's a good observation on your part!

For one thing - in order to survive as a species, we have had to move on, and in many cases, that meant getting used to something that doesn't go away. Adverse weather conditions, diseases, hunger, hardship, loss through death - we, as humans, would get used to those things to the extent that we couldn't change them. Reminds me of the Serenity Prayer! (we've all known people who refuse to get used to things, and complain forever, on and on!)

The other aspect of this is creativity. If we didn't get sort of bored with things that we are exposed to too much, we wouldn't strive to find new things. In diet, if you eat the same food over and over again, you get bored with them and want different foods. If is nutritionally bad for us to eat a very limited diet. We need a variety of vitamins and minerals.

Then, in terms of the soul, we want new beauty, new experiences, new things to learn, and that nourishes us as people, and helps us remain vibrant and alive, always creating new ways to survive AND be the dominant species, as we currently are. Being the dominant species has the tendency to assure our survival. (no guarantees!!)

This is not an exhaustive treatise on the subject!!! just some ideas
If one is exposed to negative comments as a continuum it becomes demoralizing versus an encouraging comment that can be a stimulus. As we mature, we learn to separate the good and bad comments given in everyday life, however, a constant barrage of hurtful insults is something one should never become accustomed to. Self confidence and a positive attitude toward life would be null.
very good question. this is correct, i don't remember what theory it falls under but the main reason that the OJ Simpson case was won is entirely because the witness kept showing the same gruesome images over and over again until they were accustomed to it and it did not both them anymore, i believe it is the conformity or something, but that doesn't sound right
I'd call it complacency if anything really, working around aircraft (for example) is somewhat dangerous, however once you get used to how things operate and how much things can vary day by day you get used to the chaos and learn to shut it out, while simultaneously watching your back.
people are very adaptable, you do get used to things but its better not to pay attention to those kind of things, just smile
You could also get bored.
something like that.
yes, but it does not end there.
